Will the cross member and drive shafts still work, or are the mounting and lengths going to be different?

What other's in this old thread have failed to mention, is the starter motor will need changing as the manual is diffrent from the automatics.
According to my Ford Service Manual 1993 was the first year for the 4R70W in these trucks.

Transmission Code U (4R70W) did not come into play until 1993 according to my Ford Manual.

All of that will be different, it's not a plug-n-play swap but very do-able with some parts.

Check the b-pillar tag on the driver side.

Transmission Codes:
G= C6
T=AOD
E=E4OD

If you have an AOD then sourcing a new computer is not required.

Example:

If you do not want to see that you will need to source a computer (PCM) from a manual or AOD equipped truck.
From what I've read, this isn't true. It will store some codes because of the missing transmission, but it's not going to trip the light. If you have an E4OD computer, which is unusual but not unheard of, it will work fine with a non-computer controlled transmission like an AOD, C6 or a manual.

My turn, so I just popped the 300 in my 1980 f150 4x4 with a granny low 4 speed. I have an extra 351w and a 460. The Windsor has a C6 bolted up and the 460 has a 2x4 4 speed. What would you guys do?

I'd dig up another 4x4 T18 or NP435, change the seals and put it right back in.

No, my motor let go not the tranny. I'm just trying to decide if I should swap to a 351w that will need a flywheel and clutch and motor mounts or swap the bellhousing in the truck and drop in my 460 that is already set up for a manual.

Ah ok... I misread. What about taking the bellhousing off the 2wd tranny and using it with the 460 and the tranny that's in it now?
