I have a 97 Expedition with the 5.4 and love it (other than changing the plugs). Problem I have just started and will drive you crazy when it is 100 degrees outside. Air will kick on and freeze you out and so will the rear air. If truck downshifts or you get on it the air stops blowing from the dash and goes to the defrosters. You let off the gas and it starts blowing though the dash again. I checked my vacuum lines and they all look good. I am currently having low flow EGR problems (I do not know if this is what is causing my problem). Removed my climate control and all the hoses looked great and are plugged in. I also has this problem intermittently. Drives me crazy and can't afford to take it to the shop. Anybody have any clue?
I had the faults for low egr flow and it ended up being the lines running acrossed the front of the motor behind the alternator. The solid line was broken. If it is a big enough leak that could affect the climate control as well.

Either you have a vacuum leak or the check (one-way) valve in-line with the HVAC vacuum controls is leaking.
The HVAC vacuum line runs under the battery and corrosion from the battery drips down and eats through the vacuum line. I would start by looking for any damaged vacuum lines in that area.
Well, I found two vacuum leaks an fixed em both. I still have a blower problem. Now its not every once in awhile. Evrytime it downshifts going up a hill the blower goes from dash to defroster and as soon as it shifts back up it goes back to dash. I swear I have searched everywhere and can not find another leak. UUUHHHHGGG
I have searched high and low and haven't found a leak but I did find something. The pcv valve is stuck open. removed it and could blow through it and suck through it. I know pcv is supposed to be a one way valve so I will replace it in the morning and see where that gets me. IU am only getting 12mpg highway and it is depressing me. I have replaced fuel filter, spark plugs, coils, dpfe, egr solenoid, amd ran seafoad through it and it hasn't helped. I did fix a few vacuum leaks but it did not matter. I have a 98 Land Rover discovery that is all time AWD and gets 18 on the highway and is a tank! I knew I should have bought a diesel excursion!
Put the PCV in and still the same problem. ruck runs great and can not hear any vacuum leaks. Tore the dash all apart to check for vacuum leaks in the hoses and found nothing. Put the dash back together and tested and still the same old crap. Here is something new though. Truck will only do this in drive. In park or neutral it will continue to blow through the dash vents all the way up to 5000 rpm. I put the truck in gear and go cruze and at 3000 rpm dash vents turn off and it blows through the defrosters. I have checked every vacuum line I can find and nothing. No more check engine light after I fixed the vacuum line to the vacuum canister but the a/c is driving me nuts. HELP!!!
