I just got back from vacation and found my own HVAC problem on the way home. I'm guessing vacuum leak, but please chime in. The front controls give me great cold air, but as you start to bring the temp up it doesn't react until you get to 85 at which point it is pumping full heat. No transition in between. It is very repeatable, and doesn't vary in when it happens, always around 85. Rear controls work fine. '03 EB with auto climate.

Right on the money alloro & bumparker! I have a 2004 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer which had the same issue that everyone is describing. Battery acid ate up the thin hoses. $1.78 later for vacuum hoses at Autozone and I'm back to enjoying my cool A/C in this Southern California heat.

Thanks for all the info on this!!

A picture is worht a 1000' words. ( i will try to add my images...sorry)

03 exped. no air out of center vents, only defrost. At one point i had intermittent air out of the front vents, then it finally stopped and only blew from the defroster. The hose probably had a leak and recently failed completely. I popped the hood and found it in about 5 secs...thats no kidding!
I placed a kitchen towel behind it so you can see the break in the line.

FYI..that is a brand new battery and removal of the battery will put stress on the line also, perhaps breaking/cracking it slightly!

Part of me would love to take this to the dealer now and see what would happen...what they would charger me for!

i thought this fixed it, but it didnt! I found another small crack just upstream of the break in the line. I added a longer splice of rubber tubing and now the system works as advertised!

the fix below...

Problems with A/C vents on 2005 Expedition

I just saw this post and I know very little about fixing cars. Here is my problem: Today, my air condition stopped coming out of the front vents and will only come out of the defrost vents. Is this the same problem you are discussing? If so, what do i do about it?
thanks,
Richard

Most likely the same problem, there is a vacuum leak somewhere. It may not be in exactly the same place as shown in the picture but that is where I would start. Find and fix the leak and your problem will disappear.

He made that post 10 months ago and might not be around anymore. Try clicking his name and sending him a PM. He might get an email notification of the message.

Exactly what happened to mine (see above). Acid ate the vac line. Under accleration i would have wierd things happen in the HVAC. A couple of minutes with a Mighty vac tester and i fixed it with a spare piece of tubing.

Funny..Im back on the site here looking for info on the parking sensor ECM..and saw this. I think it is just some standard 1/8th inch vac tubing...get it at autozone.

found it guys just took getting pissed off at the damn thing and yanking on hoses and wires and it popped out. It had just come out of the connection so I just had to slip it back in. Took it out for a test drive and all is working again. Now just to get the 3rd row power seats working ugh.
