Servicing differential: use limited slip additive, or not?
Ready to change the gear oil in the (rear) differential - 73' F-250 CS.
We had it on the rack at Schuab's today - both wheels turn forward together = limited slip differential.
So, I purchased a new gasket at Napa for the 10 bolt cover, and not knowing how much gear oil to get, bought 3 quarts (plenty, I'd think).
I also picked up a $12 tube of limited slip additive. I know the newer Fords recommend it, but is it needed in a 73? ( I can get my $$$s back, no big deal)
And, to what value should I torque the cover bolts?
Any other tips 'fore I get started?
