104K miles on '05 F250 the idle speed started to bounce around after a 30min hwy drive. Put the truck in reverse to turn around and rpm's dropped to ~500 then back up 50-100 over normal. I did not change throttle position much, but it seemed like the throttle wasn't doing anything. I sat and watched the truck idle for several minutes and the idle speed continued to bounce around by 300-400 rpm. Had an issue about a week prior where it fell on its face from about 1200 rpm and ~25mph while barely accelerating wasn't very noticeable at the time due to driving conditions. Looks like I have puked coolant out of the degass bottle and it was empty, about 1/3 gallon. The EGR has been unplugged since 12K and I have had to replace the EGR cooler around 50K. No codes or lights. The truck sat a few hours and drove home fine. I have noticed this summer that the idle was moving up and down about a 100rpms but couldn't remember if that was normal.
Searched the forum a bit, but I haven't been on for quite some time. Hoping to get pointed in the right direction. Thank you!
ok try unpluging the ebp sensor and see if it will still surge. Let me know if it goes away. Do not replace the ebp if it does.
remove and inspect the egr valve for excessive carbon build up.
The problem is intermittant and has not repeated yet. The EGR has been unplugged since about 12k miles were on the truck. I did plug the EGR in for a trip to the dealer back around 50k miles when the EGR cooler needed replaced and they also replaced the EGR at that time, but I unplugged the EGR as soon as I got home. No delete or anything, just unplugged. I would think that would eliminate a dirty EGR, but I am far from being the expert.
I was running Spartain Tow Safe tune, but put back to stock file after checking for codes. I also got chopped the exhaust and ran factor size pipe eliminating the particulate filter and muffler about 84k miles ago. No recent changes though. It is running the inductive heating flash.
X2 on possible ICP. Mine was doing the exact same thing. I just unplugged it and reseated it while it was running and the problems went away (that was a couple days ago). Running like new ever since and I think it wasn't fully seated after my EGR delete a couple months ago. Erratic idle, inconsistent surging while driving and eventually even died on me a couple times at stops. The idle dropped to around 500 rpm, coughed and died in both instances.
