timing assembly question
Putting the timing cover back on today. This is the only section of my book that seems to be written by someone who was either (a) a non-native English speaker (b) drunk or (c) abuot 5 minutes from going home on a four day weekend. I don't understand a damn thing it is instructing as far a reassembly.
I'm fuzzy on two things.
First is the spacer/disc that goes right onto the lower timing chain gear. I've got it dished in (with the taper going into the gear) but the outer edge seems to rub slightly on the back of the timing cover.
I'm not sure if this is a problem, but I'm also not certain that this is together correctly.

My other question has to do with the alignment sleeve that slides over the front of the crank and though the gasket in the timing cover. This has a tapered end and an end larger in diameter. Book doesn't clearly state which end goes on the inner (through the timing cover). I have the tapered end inner now and the wider end out near the balancer.
I'm hoping this is right but if I have to yank it apart I suppose I can...
Install the timing gasket and any silicone you may use. Then install the crank spacer to help center the cover and then tighten down the bolts.
Otherwise the cover can be slightly off center causing a leak.

Thanks guys. Sounds like it's right and tight. Tomorrow I will figure out how to keep the crank from spinning so I can torque the balancer bolt to 80 fp.
I really and truly appreciate you all weighing in on this.
