Post 1991 Ranger window issue

I have a 1991 Ranger with manual windows. The passenger window crank post is messed up so that the small screw will not go into the post. I need to replace the window crank post, how does it come out. Thank you all.

Welcome to the forum. The post doesn't come out by itself. It's part of the window regulator assembly which makes the window go up and down when you turn the crank. The post is usually pretty difficult to mess up. Double check to make sure the threads on the screw aren't messed up. If they are you can try using the screw from the drivers side. But if the threads are messed up in the post, you might be able to restore them by using a tap. If the threads on the screw are messed up, then take the screw out of the window crank handle on the drivers side and get a tap that matches the screw. (Same diameter & number of threads per inch.) Keep in mind that it might be a metric size instead of a US standard size. You may also need to get a couple of extra screws that match it as well. Make sure there isn't anything down in the post before you try to run the tap in there to restore the threads. If you have never used a tap before try to get a mechanic friend to help or give you some advice on using it. Smaller taps like that can be easily broken and can be very difficult or impossible to remove. If the tap goes in most of the way and cleans up the threads, try to run the screw into the post to see if it goes in all the way or if it is difficult still, without forcing it very much. (So you won't mess up another screw). If the tap won't go in far enough to clean up all the threads you will need what is called a "bottoming tap". They are shaped differently than a standard tap and will go deeper in the hole to restore the threads. Once you use the tap, run the screw in again to see if it goes deep enough to hold the handle on tightly. If it does, then you're all finished. If the screw still isn't working in the post you may need a different window regulator. Maybe the hole got too big and the screw just turns without getting tightened. Should be able to find one at a wrecking yard. Other gen 2 Rangers like yours will work, 89-92. But just one for the right/passenger door. Left and right door regulators are different. See what you can do and let us know how it goes.
