so here in the last few days my truck acted like second was slipping and now im wondering if its skipping?either something is worn out or a solenoid is bad in the tranny.what you all think?im just hoping to limp it along til i come across a zf5.
E4OD most likely, and if you were having torque converter problems it would be across the entire range, mine grenaded and left me stranded while shredding everything in the trans. I would bet it is something internal but how are the fluid levels. Try some lucas trans fix and see if that helps, might.
199k miles and yep its an e40d no difference with hot or cold but if i manually shift into second at about 2700 rpm it dont slip.im thinking that its time for a tear down and fluid levels are fine and only has maybe 2000 miles on it.maybe i willl try some lucas

When you allow the transmission to automatically shift into 2nd gear, its using an internal clutch pack inside the rotating assembly. When you use the lever to engage manual "2", it uses the external band that clamps down on the drum assembly from the outside. This is why you can still get 2nd gear even without any electrical. The manual 2nd gear function over rides the solenoid body hydraulic routing and is given priority when used. Found this out when I had an electrical problem with mine a couple years back. The PCM would try and command 3rd gear but I could still force it into 2nd manually.
(MLPS was wired wrong at the time and it now automatically agrees with 2nd gear whenever I manually move to "2". Karl Baumann explained how manual 2 over rides automatic 2nd gear when I was troubleshooting the problem)
The band is only used for manual 2nd gear selection (not sure if it plays a role in manual 1) and is never activated via the PCM. So it could definitely grab hard in even a worn out transmission because its not normally used. This is actually one of the things I like about the E4OD because it offers some redundancy for the intermediate range.
so what ya think probably rip it apart?im just hoping it wont die til the spring ,hunting season starts next saturday and i will probably put around 1500-2000 miles on it between now and then
ok so i got to thinking IF i found another e40d i should be able to just swap bell housings and make it fit right?that would make life much easier cause if i did i would look for a 97 and up since they are built beefier
