I've been reading the stuff on this forum for months and it has been of great benefit. This is my first post. I have a Canadian built 1949 stock F1 (F47). It has been running great for two years but the fuel pump started leaking from a crack in the body of the pump. I bought a new one but can't seem to get it to work. I know the push rod is connected and I filled the bowl with gas to see if anything moved. Nothing did. I also discovered that my flathead is a 1951 year. My internet search said that the same pump was used from 48 to 52. I measured the push rod and it is the same length as the one I took out. The two pumps do not look exactly the same. The old one had the glass bowl mounted on top after the inlet and the new one hangs down from the same inlet.
The pump in the photo is upside down, apparently it wouldn't stand up when oriented properly. There is a dual action pump that is similar. Any chance that you have the wrong one?
If the new pump doesn't work, either it's bad out of the box (not unheard of), there is an air leak on the inlet side, or the tubing from the tank to the pump is plugged (very common).
welcome. you might try taking gasket out from under glass bowl and soaking it in fuel for a few minutes. they get dry in storage and just might be allowing air to be drawn in, causing loss of suction.
