If you already have the Flowmaster now, why don't you change the downpipe from the headers to the cat to see if that fixes the sound note? You seem to have the right muffler for what you want, so try the downpipe next.

I have a flow 50 with all the stock piping (just switched the muffler) and it is MUCH louder....I also live in Mass and had no problems with getting a sticker a lot of places just look to see if the exhaust looks stock i.e. no duals

bigger than 2.5 dual will make it want to rev higher and you'll feel less power low down...(my opinion)

If you want it louder, maybe you could get a Flowmaster Original 40 and have it exit before the rear tires or even dump it underneath the bed. Or straight pipe it like you want and have it exit in the same position. I've heard a 5.4 with a Flowmaster Original 40 that was pretty damn loud and rumbly.

Honestly I dont thing changing just the front Y pipe will affect the exhaust sound enough. I beleive the biggest restriction in my exhaust is the cat! I am running the truck right now with no muffler and its still more quiet than my mustang.

If I run the mustang with no mufflers and just the cat's I set off car alarms just idling in my driveway. On the other hand with the SD less muffler I can drive around all day with no problems.

My issue at the moment is that my exhaust pipes rotted off. I can buy another kit or I can try the local exhaust shop. I can get the new exhaust done and installed for half the price of a new system from summit with or without re-using my Flowmaster muffler. I am going to get the exhaust done as pictured less muffler, and if I have any problems down the road I can allways cut in a single in/out muffler before the Y pipe.

The stock exhaust on the 99'-04' gassers is a single 3" exhaust. Dual 2.5" pipes will flow far more than a single 3" will.

Negative. Getting rid of the necked down portion of the Y-pipe will increase and change the sound significantly. I have changed two y-pipes on these trucks and the change is pretty dramatic. The 2 sections on the stock y-pipe that neck to 1.5" from 2.3" is FAR more restrictive than the stock cat.

I would get an SPD y-pipe to replace the necked down portion of the y-pipe and run a single 3" catback exhaust with some kind of muffler. Your low end power will more than likely go in the toilet without a muffler.

BTW if you think you can get the 5.4l in your SD to sound like a 4.6l Mustang forget it. The Mustang has a completely different exhaust setup which as far shorter from exhaust port face to tailpipe than the SD.

Right, but I think he wants to do either dual 2.5" or dual 3". I might be wrong, but that is jsut how I read it.

10/4

Since you want dual pipes after the cat with no muffler dual 2 1/4" pipes would be a better size IMO.

Yeah I'm thinking 2.5" at the most, but as dkf stated 2.25" would work well.

It's an east coast thing, and one more reason I don't live out there!
What prompted that senseless and uneducated comment? Must be a west coast thing.

Anyway,
You know wthin a month of no muffler you might be hard of hearing from the constant drone it will put in your head.

I need a sticker on my truck before the end of the month SO I need an exhaust before then!
I am sure I could get a sticker with or without an exhaust!(its nice to know people)
You got me confused on this one.

HUH, sorry I didn't hear you.

Mixing two different comments together.

First, I want to get an exhaust so I am legal! Secondly I am sure my buddy would let me pass go and collect my $200 dollars. Sorry couldnt refuse. Any who I am sure my buddy would give me a sticker knowing how I am with my stuff.
