I've traditionally installed my own and have some excellent ideas for plates that will protect this new beast.
Usually I protect;
- bottom of rad
- tranny
- xfer case
- gas tank
I've heard though that there are molded skids designed for some of these. If they are not too pricey, I might consider as opposed to the straight plates I'm currently looking at, as I used in the past.
Problem with straight plates is you must keep a careful watch that debris (grass, weeds etc) doesn't get stuck in there as it could catch on fire.
If they are simple aluminum candy-crap though I'm not interested. I'll proceed with stainless steel as planned.
well if your talking about getting oem skid plates they are made of a heavy tin but odd are you might want stronger then oem,they will stop any damage from happening but more than likey will not last if you plan on hit rocks and what not.
but i have never damage a **** plate yet but have packed them full of mud
Skid plates have saved my butt more than once in rocks. Once, I would have lost the gas tank for sure if no plate was there.
I recently looked at oem models and they are tin, sure enough and would not protect much.
I'll stick with steel and install them myself.
