I recently bought a 1996 BRONCO, and have been trying to find somewhere I can get a breakdown on mt truck by the VIN number. I have done a search here but come up with sites that decode up to 1980. I want as much information as I can get, such as axle gearing, springs load and any options that might be on the truck. Any help would be greatly appreciated
None of the specific info you mentioned is in the VIN - it's in the codes on the door sticker. Post a good pic of that sticker, or type in all the codes and the VIN (you can leave off the last 4 digits) and we'll decode them.
1FM - Ford truck USA
E - GVWR 6-7000 lb
U15 - Bronco
N - 5.0L
6 - (check digit; not useful)
L - 1990
L - Built in the Wayne, MI, truck plant
B##### - Serial number
F0024 - Front axle reserve capacity 24lb
T0261 - (don't know why it's "T" and not "R", but could be total reserve)
YY - White
71 - Shipped to Los Angeles
WB - Wheelbase in inches
U152 - Bronco GVWR 6050
N (don't know; seat material) D - medium red interior (maybe blue for your year)
M - Mazda M5OD-R2
19 - Front ratio 3.54/ rear 8.8" 3.55 - both open diffs.
Spring codes only translate to part numbers, so not useful.
Thanks so much for all the help. I am new to owning a full size truck, have owned Jeeps in the past. I am enjoying my Bronco so far and hope to continue to do the same. With a site and useful information that I have gotten here, I don't see how it cannot be a good experience.
