Got a 95 f150 I6 with a cracked head top of cylinder # 5. bought head from discount installed truck runs but is smoking and fouling #5 with the new head. Assumming the piston rings were damaged when overheated, I want to replace just the rings on #5 without removing the head. has anyone done this? I've tried the non foulers but the spark plug still fouls with runny oil.
just pull the head man i mean while your at it pull the whole shabang out and do em all hell if ya got some cash to throw around go and get them holes punched 20 over /shave the head down and slap it all back together with a cam and some roller rockers
i think id be pretty cool + ya pick up some power mpg and 19 internets
The head is new , so the valve stem is very unlikely. could the excessive heat that hurt the first head around the #5 cylinder have hurt the injector to also cuasing a fouled plug. how much oil could possibly get past the ring. when the head was being replaced i checked the top of the piston wiggle test seeing if there was play between the piston and cylinder. all pistons were tight. could a bad injector cuase alot smoke. blueish grey.
A compression test will tell you if your rings are bad with out having to pull no more then the spark plug. Don't forget unless the motor is very new you can not replace rings with out honing the cylinder first.... would be pretty hard to do with the head on.
If the injector was flooding it it would be black smoke like a diesel... but oil will cause a bluesh smoke like from a 2 cycle engine... bad rings will also cause excesive blow by
