1995 F350 Dually King Cab PSD. Lately I have been having tranny concerns. I was instructed by Racer X to first have the "pcm Codes" read. The Over Drive (OD) Light was flashing on the shift handle while I was towing a trailor. He says that the flashing light was indicating that there was a powertrain default detected and reading the codes should point me in the right direction. Also, the shifter linkage appears to be loose or very hard to desifer which gear I am actually in. Again the codes should help to adjust that Racer X says.
So now my question is: does anyone know where I find the code reader plug on this make model truck? Also, if someone knows, how I can tell or if you know will my code reader Ford OBD 1 work to read this truck? Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Ford Pride, you were right on. I went out under the steering column and found the 2 torques head screws were loose just as you suspected. I tightened them up and bingo I know what gear I am in. Thanks much for the help. Tomorrow at first light I will check the speed sensor. This truck I have owned since new and pride myself in trying to take care of her. I just last weekend turned 131,000 miles with her. I use it mostly in the spring, summer and fall pulling my equipment trailor (about 10,000 to 14,000 lbs. so the entire undercarage is extremely clean. I used a flashlight and looked at the rear end and from what I can see it's like brand new on the exterior of the speed sensor and plug etc. so if the sensor is the shifting problem I'm having and causing the OD light to flash I guess it would be on the interior side of the sensor where the problem would be? Anyway, My hats off to you thanks again.
If you pull the sensor out of the rear end there is what looks like a magnet on it. Wipe it off good and reinstall. If it isn't reading properly it can make the trans act funny.
