I am looking at a 1984 lincoln Mark VII with a possible boss 302. I know these cars did not come with this engine. The engine is kinda hodge podged together as far as the brackets go. It is using 302 brackets that have been crudely modified to hold the alternator and power steering pump. The alt is running a serpentine belt and the pump has a v-belt. It is running full length headers. The engine bay is uncut for shoe horning a big block in.
The intake is an offenhauser tunnel ram with a big holley 4 barrel. The heads are clevelands with screw in studs. The rockers and pushrods are gone. I am guessing that this is a boss clone. I do not know if it runs. There are several rats nests and some lite corrosion on the motor.
Well, it sounds like a nightmare since it has to be smog inspected, then with the engine change it now has to go to a Federal Inspection station for the rest of it's life- if they will even allow that engine combo.
I wouldn't waste too much time on it, an authentic Boss motor is worth some good $$ but a clone isn't, the real Boss motor made for a lousy street motor anyway.. nobody home below 5000rpm and then all hell breaks loose.
Thanks for the quick replies. I may have misstated. The car is in the junkyard. I do not need another motor for anything, I was just wondering if it should be passed up for 180 bucks is all.
If the block has screw-in plugs on the side where a normal 302 has freeze plugs it's a Boss block. I can't imagine someone would put an $8,000 engine in that car. It's probably a "Clevor". At best. If it is a Boss 302 I'd put it on ebay and sell the car for scrap...
Ford sold a 351C head suitable for "Clevors" in the mid 80s that had a closed combustion chamber, 2V style intake ports and 4V style exhaust ports. This head was listed in the SVO catalogs of the time. If by chance that engine has those, then I would think they would be highly desireable to the "Clevor" crowd. Plus the intake has value.
I am not going to be able to get to it until the middle of the week. I have to go to my parents tomorrow to work on their roof. The car is a real piece of junk now, but it looked to have been pretty decent once.
Well... it was not a boss or clevor. I am guessing either a cleveland or a 351m. The thermostat comes out on top of the block next to the distributor. The heads have screw in studs and stainless valves. There was a 4 cast in the top corners of the heads, no other castings that could be seen. The intake is an offenhauser dual port. I never thought that large of a motor would fit in that tight of an engine bay.

351C is about the same size as a 351w, a little shorter deck. 351m/400 is about the same deck height as a 429/460, but about the same length as the 302/351w. Probably a 351c, as that was the hot motor. But, if it is a 351c, the visible parts are probably good and saleable, but I'd bet it has some serious internal issues--why else would you let it go to the scrappy? Was the car wrecked?
