so whether im driving, or in my yard if i jump on the gas the motor revs up about 500 RPM, stumbles, then takes off. iv checked EVERYTHING and i cant come up with why its happening..i replaced..oil, plugs, wires, dizzy, rotor, cap, coil, and it made it ALOT better but its still bad..before it would stumble and die...oh and the timing is 1* higher then OEM and i don't believe that 1* can make it this bad..
also im wondering what i can do to the motor (or go diesel) for the best torque..cause the bloody truck weight 3.5 tons empty i want alot of torque so that i can get up and go
well..the thing is its only from a stop, once the motor gets above 1650 RPM its perfectly fine and it will up to 4k lol thats where i shift the auto trans cause i dont wanna rev over 4k since i have NO idea what the RL is on the truck...
I'm also interested in this, as I'm having a similar problem with my 302, 600 cfm Holley vacuum secondary. On the one hand, I think it's running too rich, as I often don't need to set the manual choke to start it from cold, and the plugs have black soot on them. But I tried changing the accelerator pump cam settings, but it doesn't change the response; there is a stumble from idle when I goose the throttle, which makes me think that there is a temporary lean condition. Still puzzled.
Check to see if your accelerator pump is working, look down into the carb while stroking the throttle. (engine not running) You should see 2 streams of gas shooting out
I should have mentioned that I do see the streams shooting out when I tap the throttle lever. I do wonder about that as well. I had to clean out the carb of a lot of gummy build-up, including around the little check ball in the accelerator pump. This required disturbing a little. The rebuild instructions specify some kind of clearance between the ball and the cavity it sits in, but I've never been able to verify that. So I wonder if the pump shot is coming in too late, and I should really try to properly set that piece of metal that holds the little check ball in place.
the carb is clean, and i have 4 jets of gas not 2, its a 4 barrel (i was told) 850 CFM i have a 750 CFM edelbrock im gonna put on after rebuilding it and getting an adapter..and my plugs are the perfect tan color
That sounds like a double-pumper. I've read that they can be tricky to set up. You need to synchronize the pump shot with the opening of both throttle plates, and they are all activated by hard linkages.
My vacuum secondary opens up on overall flow rates, so it does not use a pump that side.
thats why im putting an edelbrock on it..its a 750 CFM 4 barrel, and all 4 butterflies work off a manual linkage nothing with vacuum..i just need a few things to make it work..
