shop just called and said i needed new ex valves as it looked like they were bouncing on the seats so i'll replace the springs to looked around and this # kept popping up
910-16 from comp
is this what i'd need or is it over kill for a stock motor?is there another replacement spring that would work?
thanks john
That is an upgrade to our trucks. It is relatively inexpensive and probably cheaper than stock ones.
You can call Summit racing and buy them for around $90.00. I also shimmed mine. You can then call Swamps diesel and tell them you are installing Comp 910's and tell them how many miles you have on the truck and they will sell you the correct thickness of shims.
Just curious why the shop said only exhaust springs?
They are all the same and unless you are in a performance situation usually they don't go bad.
I have a full set of stockers I pulled off mine I would gladly let you have for $90.00. LOL. Just kiddin'
no he said valves looked like they had been bouncing on the seats.like springs were weak.he ground them but had to cut to much off were the rocker sits and was worried about the hardend tip part of the valve.so i'm ordering new valve to to bring them back up to par since they are non adjustable.he said he could shim them but i would feel better with new springs with 0 miles on them
thanks john
order those 910's. they are good for stock engines up to probably around 500hp. I'd be kinda worried about them over 500hp b/c they aren't very much stiffer than stock. 10lbs stiffer IIRC. thats why i'm going to end up getting rid of my 910's for either beehives or the hypermax springs.
ordered them and new in and ex valves today along with injector cups.at least the heads will be like new.getting closer.strokin they said you'd know about using a later style motor to rebuild any thoughts on it?
thanks guys
Later style engine would be OK, but if you go with a later engine, do not use any of the OBS internals on it. the OBS and SDs had different cranks(counterweighted differently and block was cut for crank to fit in SD). Also the SD pistons used thicker rings than the OBS as well. You'd need to use OBS valve cover gaskets, OBS sensors, and whatever else was different on the OBS electrically so you can use your harness. Also use the OBS manifolds and uppipes if you plan to use the stock OBS turbo, if you plan to use the SD turbo, then use the SD manifolds and uppipes. if you plan to use an IC then use the SD 3" intake plenums, if you plan to keep the OBS intake "Y" then use the OBS 2" plenums.
Sorry. I missread the OP. I am glad to hear you ordered the 910's anyway. They will serve you good.
travis. I didn't know the cranks and pistons and rings were different. Learn something new everyday.
It was in one of my few informative posts. LOL. I posted somewhere all of the differences between the OBS and SD engines. those included the crank, piston rings, block(SD is thicker in the valley), etc. I will try to find the post throughout my night at work tonight.
Hypermax hi rev valve springs and Chromoly pushrods such as the ones from DI Performance. You would also probably need roller rockers from Wipe Out Enterprised b/c the stock rockers will probably blow apart at that kind of RPM. Aside from that the next hurdle would be "FAST" injectors to even think about running more than around 4000 RPM.
It run's great. So much so now i'm going to have a rebuild on the trans. It needed it really before i rebuilt the motor. But it is still running just the last time i towed with it the trans temp got up around 255 so i'll be pulling it and doing a rebuild. And installing a 3 disk converter i picked up.Now i'm rebuilding another one i picked up a month or so back.
thanks john
And yes i reused the head bolts and will in the other one to.Its been allmost 2 years and have had no trouble from the motor.maybe 5 or 6000 miles on it
