Replacing Cooling Lines
I have an 86 f-150 v-8 auto 5.0 and i learn something new everytime we work on it! I feel a little silly, but we have run into a problem we never expected while replacing the radiator. We have done far more difficult things than this and are baffled by...wait for it...
the nuts on the cooling lines.
What simple thing are we missing here that makes it near effing impossible to take the cooling lines off the radiator? We've cracked a line and are going to need to replace it. I'd like to use metal lines rather than replacing with high pressure/temp rubber. Do we need to form them or is this an aftermarket part I can buy?
Thanks for helping a newbie. Please be kind.

if its the transmission lines u need 2 wrenches
a flare nut wrench for the nut on the line and another flare nut wrench for the nut that the goes into the radiator... if that makes sense
a regular open ended wrench will work for the nut in the radiator just be sure it fits right or u will round it off...
as far as metal lines if it is the transmission ur talking about LMC has them
but its better for the line to crack on removal than it is for it to happen on re-installation
my boyfriend spent his saturday fighting it while i was at work.the cooling line was completely corroded at the compression nut and torqued so that it was impossible to separate them. he cut the line and replaced everything. it was 5/16 in our case, but we don't know how consistent that size is across the board.
thanks!
