I just finished wiring the turn signal switch (it works!) but do not have the instrument panel cluster wired to display the turn signal because there are no light sockets to connect to. Looking at the back of the dash, it looks like there should be a socket inserted just behind the turn indicator on the dashboard similar to the instrument panel lights, but both slots behind left/right arrows are empty.
I looked at the usual places to order it (LMC, F100Central, RockAuto) and cannot seem to find anyone selling these.
Am I just missing it? Ive searched for pilot lights, instrument panel lights, back lights, dashboard lights and I have not been able to find the right part.
those sockets are the same as the hi-beam and dash light bulb holders. if all else fails, see if you cant scab some from another dash assy. the sockets themselves are easy to rebuild if the wire's insulation is rotted away, just a little putzy is all.
Like Dumbluck noted, they are easy to fix. Usually a piece of heat shrink over the old wire does the trick
I clip the wire right at the little "button" contact, and then use a 1/16" drill bit to clean out all the old wire strands from inside it. then it's just a matter of soldering on a new 16 gauge wire of the appropriate color, and finishing it up with a 1" or so length of 1/8" shrink tube. putzy and excessive i know, but I'll not have to touch the repair ever again normally. I've run across a few that are nothing more than a filed down blob of solder on the end of the wire too, rather than the button type sleeve.
