I have been looking around at other 67-72 F series trucks to see what hood ornament would have come stock from the factory. The other day I saw a 72 F-100 with a very stock appearing ornament. It fit the contours of the hood exactly and was square at the base with a round 1" thick ornament. It was chrome and I could not really see what was in the center of the ornament. Does anyone know what was supposed to be there or does anyone have an old one lying around? I know most trucks came without them. I suspect my Ranger XLT had one as the holes are there.
George this ornament your talking about is for sale in the Dennis Carpenters catalog for the 67-72 truck for 65 dollars. The part# is D3TB-16850-B and their phone # is 1-800-476-9653.
George sorry that was the only hood ornament I have ever seen that wasn't added on by someone . Do you have any pics of the one your reffering to ?Or is it even meant for the trucks? Let me know I'm curious.
Thanks for the replies guys! And thanks for the compliments on the XLT. It was given to me on my birthday last June. Was sitting in a field on an island for years. The wheels are original Magnesium American Racing S-200's.
The hood ornament would be only for the F-100. I am certain that the one I saw a few days back would be a Ford item. Maybe there is another trip to the dealer in my future. Wish I had schematics of the truck.
This woudl not be the explorer one, I have seent hat in catalogs. The one I saw the other day may have had three crowns on it in a circular chome piece.
i know the ornament you are talking about but i have only seen one myself. it was on ebay a while back and i almost bought it for the novelty value. i think it had a C8TB part number if my memory isn't failing me. hawkrod
