Duraspark FAQ
Lot's a sites have the conversion info but I've seen some discrepencies....
What's the difference between Duraspark I, II, and III?
The distributor is good to 6000 rpm, but the stock module I've read gets flaky at 3500, and is worthless over 4500?
I've read it's not very tolerant of low voltage situations, is this true?
Can it be hooked up to an old style coil (I know you don't get all the gains) to make a stock look?
The one with the blue grommet is the one to get. I don't buy the rpm limitations. I use one on my distributor machine running at 6 volts to trigger the strobe coil.
The duraspark II has a vacuum advance, and centrifugal advance weights underneath the breaker plate.
The duraspark III is for use with a computer system. It has no way to advance the timing. It basically sends pulses to the computer, which modifies it for timing, and the modified signal is sent to the duraspark III module. You don't want this unit.
I don't know what a duraspark I is. If I where to guess, it may be an early version without the dura II improvements.
This site gives the ins and outs of tuning your duraspark system. Plus how to wire it for proper operation. Hope this helps.

Ok, I've done more research and I've read Duraspark is good to about 5000rpm before it gets flaky.
Now more questions....
Blue - standard
Yellow - Economy/Altitude adjustment
Red - Automatic dwell
Ok, the yellow one may seem a little more to hook up for whatever benefits it may add to mpg, but the red one seems like the ticket, yet all those duraspark conversion web sites say to use the blue one. Why?
I wish someone would put together a complete info sheet on all the Duraspark incarnations, I would, but I can't find the info!
