i bought a carburated, 300 from a guy and he said that he just put a new head on it. i installed it, and it ran like crap, after putting new everything on the motor, it still ran bad. my question is how can i find out if it is a head from a fuel injected motor it has 0f28 on it. the head is clean, and looks real good. but i have never found out why it ran so bad. when i put the motor in it ran bad, but did not smoke, but when i pulled it it ran bad, smoked, and had blow by. sorry so long, oh the motor is a 84. thanks for any onfo
Can't tell you 100%, cause I just don't know (yet), but there 'should' be some numbers stamped into that head someplace. I'm not familiar enough to know the difference although I bought a head off of a fuel injected truck for $25 a couple of weeks ago (for my 84...kind of bizarre). If noone can answer it, I will take a closer look at it tomorrow at work, and compare it to mine....Post the numbers up, if you can find them or googling it might work too...
An efi head will have a few extra manifold bolt holes in it, but, it will run just fine on a carbed engine, all the industrial version 300's after 87 were set up that way.
i have another question, should i keep the push rods, and lifters with the head im going to use. or just use the push rods? sorry about all the questions, but i want to get it right
