all this is Rob again and numberdummy helped out a lot and if he is here or anyone with exp. it is evident i dont!!
1. I am trying to copy and paste it but it is labeled 9685 on the 1970 ford truck 302 in one of the forms but it doesnt give name just 9685.
It is a hard like metal or vaccum hose like from near back of carb but not attached to it, and it goes right into the header it looks like. but if you get this picture and it is bottom engine, 9685.
Does it connect to a spacer between the carb and intake manifold? Sounds like it might be a preheat connection from exhaust manifold to intake to help with cold engine starts until the it all warms up
I am an expert by no means but I believe that's what it is...maybe one of the other guys can verify.... and the number in the picture for the part is 9865 not 9685. I looked for 9685 until my eyes crossed. But then again 9A603 performs a similar function warming up intake air during warm up
9A603 is the warm air riser, it connects to the lower port on the air filter snorkel to provide warmer air in cold weather.
The piece marked 9865 is for the hot air choke. Air flows from a port under the round part of the carb, down through a coil in the exhaust manifold, and is drawn back up into the choke housing to warm the spring and release the choke. Later systems warmed the spring electrically.

The illustrations (which I deleted) in this post are from the 1964/72 Ford Truck Parts Catalog / Illustration Section 60, Page 19.
The basic Ford part number is 9865 and it is not a steel or copper tube or a vacuum line.
9865 is only the insulator (C8WZ9865B) that covers the tube (choke stove). It was available by itself or came in a kit that also consisted of the tube (furnished with the kit only) and fittings.
