Lately my 05 F-250 6.0 SD has been making a knocking sound when I stop. It only happens maybe 2-3 times a day and it occurs as I'm coming to a complete stop. It doesn't occur when I slam on the brakes but rather, when the brake is applied slowly. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you!! ArtV
Just to get some background -
What oil and brand filter are you using?
What fuel filters are you using?
How often do you change the oil and the fuel filters?
Any lack-of-power problems?
Has your fuel economy dropped?
Is it an engine knocking sound, a gurgling sound, or what (be as specific as possible)
Does it do it when the engine is hot, cold or doesn't matter?
Can you check to see if there are any codes (DTC's)?
BTW - you can have codes without the CEL on.
What oil and brand filter are you using? Rotella oil and motorcraft filter
What fuel filters are you using? International fuel filters
How often do you change the oil and the fuel filters? I change the oil every 6000 miles. I bought the truck with 31,000 miles and I changed the fuel filters @ about 60,000 it now has 82,000
Any lack-of-power problems? No I have not felt any.
Has your fuel economy dropped?I never got anymore than like 14.2 MPG
Is it an engine knocking sound, a gurgling sound, or what (be as specific as possible) Its not an engine knocking (I dont think) it almost feels as if I hit a pothole or ran over a speed bump.
Does it do it when the engine is hot, cold or doesn't matter? Doesn't matter. I've never changed the brakes and my front ones are starting to squeal. Could that have something to do with it??
Can you check to see if there are any codes (DTC's)? Don't know much about codes or how to get them...
BTW - you can have codes without the CEL on. Thanks for your help Bismic!!

I would also try using the blue marine grade grease. It is water proof and has tiny fibers in it that would help the cushioning effect. I also would try drilling and installing a mini zerk fitting.
