sorry for the ignorance of my questions,
but it is really hard to find decent info on my 82 f100 here in oz;
anyways,
trying to get my dash instruments off. how do you correctly remove the speedo cable at the back of the instruments? I have tried everything and am **** scared of braking the damn thing!!
and my second question is with a faulty dipstick for my 351 cleveland. i cant get any sort of reading from it, even after the engine gets topped with oil. is this a common problem? how would i go about fixing this?
You have to get you hand on the back of the speedo where the cable hooks, feel for a TAB ... Squeeze that tab and the cable between thumb and forefinger, it doesn't take much force and it's plastic so don't force it, once squeezed the cable should slip off easily.
As for the dip stick, the only thing I can say is to dump the oil and filter, let it all drain real good, put the 5 quarts in and let it run till warm, then on level ground pull the stick, if it doesn't show on the stick either it's to short or the oil is getting wiped off when you pull it out, if it's getting wiped off I bend a slight wave in the end of the stick making the add area concaved just slightly and put that side to the outside of the bend in the tube.
for the speedo cable. There is a tab on the top of the coupling and on the inside of the bottom is a nipple that is stuck in a hole. You need to press the tab down and squeeze the sides so the nipple comes out. I just had to replace the cable on my 82. What a crapper to figure out.
