Unfortunately I may have to sell my 66, (lack of funds, too many home renos to do ....basically getting my priorities in order) and I have weighed it out and I would rather restore my 68 Cougar. Trouble is, I dont know what to ask for my 66, Ill try to post a couple pics, and lay out everything I can about it...
-66 Custom Cab Long box 2wd
-"economical" paint job with some bubbling and minor bondo cracking
-recently rebuilt late 70s 302
-Aod trans.
-power steering
-new windshield
-custom cab chrome door handle "boots"
-new seat
-new carpet
-aftermarket polished aluminum rims with next to new tires
This truck has been a summer cruiser the past couple years that I have owned it, everything works.
Missing rear bumper as I planned to install a roll pan but never got around to.
How much do you think I could get out of her? Its not really a show truck, it looks great from 20ft but any closer and you will notice its flaws, but it is a sound, reliable truck.
PS Can anyone recommend a better way to post a larger image? I am obviously new to imagehosting.
I've been watching alot of trucks similar to yours on ebay. In your trucks condition I've seen them go for $2000 to $3500. I paid $1800 for a running 65 f100 that needs a paint job inside and out, needed a seat, windshield and carpet as well as the floor pans replaced, exhaust and some mechanical work.
I will guess $4500 to be a fair price, if there are no rust issues, based on the info you provided.
There are some folks here that will gasp that that is TOO MUCH!! and that you can get a decent '66 F100 CC for $1500-$2000. I don't think so.
I DO think you can get a running '66 F100 for $1500 or so, though, but if you add a decent motor, Auto trans, PS, paint, interior and take care of all the mechanical and rust issues, my guess sounds reasonable to me.
I purchased my 66 F100 CC in april for $2k, running and driving, short bed, 3 on the tree. Needed floors, brakes, paint. No major rust except for the floors.
I think mac's on the right track here. You're well north of the US "rust belt", so if that's a solid, shiny truck it's got some value. Nice color combo, creature comforts, engine, etc.
$5,500 or $6,000 and then entertain offers. That's what I'd do. In a slow economy you can sell people on having an old vehicle, and they can put it to good use too. That's what I told my "better half" during the buying process.
I am getting ready to sell my '64 F-100 for $4500...Has a fresh rebuild on the motor, all new brakes/lines. I drive it every other day. Needs cab mounts and a paint job. I hope it goes quick at that price!
good luck, mine isnt a cc but its a 66 4wd style side with a 390, 4 spd top loader, primer with no rust, no dents, new rims and 35x12.5 tires, only prob was the gas tank want stock and it was missing the gas gauge and the guy was asking 3k. Granted im in arizona and trucks last forever here with no rust issues. I say you take the value of the truck and add 1k so you get closet to what you want for it. Im only 26 years old but have had 7-8 different vehicles and know about buying, selling and trading so keep an open mind and good luck!
