If those 2 holes at the back are coolant passages then there's no need to block it off like allen said. If not, the 300's don't like havin a cold carb so you can make a plate to fit the bottom and run coolant to it. Or you can run a coolant plate between the carb and manifold.

Those two ports on the manifold are for vacuum devices like EGR, dizzy, brake booster if you need them or want to use them. You don't have to block off the indent on the bottom but it is a good idea to fab a plate from say 3/8 or 1/2 aluminum drilled and tapped for heater hose barbs and spliced in to a heater hose for manifold/carb heat and thus avoid carb icing and bogging. If using the stock exhaust manifold, it bolts right up for that just like on a stock intake and you don't need the water heat.

I believe those two holes on the back are for manifold vacuum. Coolant into them might affect performance, but don't quote me on that.

I dare say, coolant going through those ports would affect performance...just a little.

Thanks for all of the wonderful information guys! I'm really excited... Just got my tax returns and bought a hedman header, the intake and carb, accel super stock coil, and edelbrock dual inlet dual outlet 2.25" muffler, and recurve springs for the distributor

You might be able to pick up a couple horses with that setup.

Sounds like fun! If you can, take pictures of the full install.

That 2v adapter may not work on the 4v Offy DP manifold very well. The primary and secondary side of the DP are completely separate.

The Qjet would be fine...just need a spread bore/square bore adapter plate (TransDapt #2034 or Edelbrock #2696) and it should not be affected by fuel bowl slosh like the Holleys although baffles and jet extensions are available.

The carb in the picture is a 2700 VV...considered by many to be a #1, AAA, genuine POS.
Do some research on it.

QJet is a good carb. As long as you know how to set it up, it'll work great on your 300. 4BBL carb goes "sideways" on a 300, primaries towards the valve cover. +1 on manifold heat.
