Nitto Terra Grapplers
Nitto Terra Grapplers
I need new (EXPENSIVE) tires and have narrowed the field down to 2-3 brands/models including the Nitto Terra Grapplers. I am looking at 275/60-R20 or 275/65-R20 sizes.
I have searched and followed the threads, so I know folks that have them like them and that they have low noise and good traction. What I need to know is what kind of wear life to expect, given the size of the investment. Please let me hear from you Nitto owners, how many miles were you able to safely get before replacement.

Believe it or not I currently have 66,500 miles on mine. Pretty much all interstate and highway miles. They are worn but not as bad as you would think. I may try to make it through one more winter. Couldn't be happier.
I can't personally speak for them, but my brother had a set on his old jeep, currently has a set on his new F-150, and my dad has had 2 sets on two of his f-150s. A friend of mine has a set on his Dodge. I don't think theyd run anything else on their trucks. Plus they look sharp and are pretty dang quiet for an aggressive tread !
I have them and love the ride, noise level, and handling of them. I can't speak on the wear yet because mine are still fairly new but could not be happier. In my experience the people who have complained about the wearing on them had the wrong loading size for their truck. With the sizes you are talking about you should be just fine in that aspect and expect to get 40-50k maybe more out of them.
What are the other brands you have narrowed it down to?

Michelin LTX A/T
Have considered others.
Have Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armors. Quiet, good ride, and good looking, but never was able to balance at high speeds (~70mph). Think I want to try something different. At this cost level, I need to see about 60k wear.

Something that is a little bit cheaper, not as aggressive but still a damn good looking tire is the Yokohama Geolander ATS. You should be able to get about 60k out of that tire and it has some great reviews. I have a guy who works on my truck and he drives a 250 and has them on his and he said he will not put another tire on it again. I had it for a period and was very happy but just wanted something more aggressive so I switched to the Nitto's.
Anyway good luck the tire choices nowadays are always a hard one.

I love my Nitto Terra Grapplers in 265/65/20. They have about 30K on them now and still look brand new for the most part. I rotate them every oil change, so every 5,000 miles and balance every other rotation.
So far, so good and no complaints. In fact the truck rides better than with the crappy factory Pirelli's.

Nice to hear that yours are wearing very well that means I have some high hopes for mine just have to remember to rotate them. Seems like out trucks are just about the same and I see you are a VA boy too.
Coskid,
Yes I am south of the rivah in C-field. Nice trucks....love mine. The Nitto's are wearing very well but I also run them at 52 psi in the front and 50 in the rear instead of the 35 psi they were set at when I bought them. A little firmer ride, but tolerable.
P.S. They are 275/65/20's.....My fat fingers hit the wrong key in the post

Ah very nice not too far at all. I will have to check the pressure on mine because I certainly don't mind a little bit firmer ride. I wish my truck had the 20" rims on it from the factory. That is about the only upgrade that the previous owner didn't put on this truck.
I kind of figured the size was a typo but I wasn't going to say anything.

I will have to second the rain and snow qualities as well. We got three good storms for Virginia this past winter and the NTG's were great. Awesome in the rain and pretty good in the mud until you get in the real soupy stuff. As a duck hunter, I am in the mud often all fall and winter and cannot complain about these tires overall. Run them above 45 psi though for wear and mileage improvements. 35 psi is too soft on these E rated tires. Over 60 psi is too harsh.
