the problem is it sucks! its going to get me killed one day for sure.
i had a truck and trailer pull out in front of me this afternoon and for the first time in the life of my truck i had to slam on breaks. at the moment i didnt notice but as soon as i was out of danger i realized that in a bit of time i was only doing 40 mph... i was at 60 when i nailed the breaks.
got me to thinking so i took some time and turned around and tried it again, and again.
at 1/4 breaking i slowed to 40 in 3 seconds
at 3/4 breaking i slowed to under 40 in under 2 seconds.
at full slammed breaks i slowed to 40 in just over 3 seconds.
THATS NOT GOOD! meaning if im ever in danger i have to keep my head and not pound the petal and that i can just act like im stopping for a light and still stop faster.
as soon as the ABS turns on my breaking power is more than halved. is this typical?
first thing i thought was its my pads so i pulled my front tires and i have 3/4 pads left...
i feel the same way about my brakes, i never thought it was the abs, just figured it was crappy oem pads. had plans on changing them soon to hawk or akebono,. maybe a problem with the abs could be to blame
My 06 was recalled for the booster hose. Before that I never really trusted the brakes. Since the pedal would go to the floor if you had your foot on it at a full stop and continued to apply pressure.
After the recall, I've had a couple of people run stop sign and had to slam on the brakes. The ABS worked just as it should. The OEM brake pads did squawk a bit. But the truck stop very quickly.
