I am new to the SD world. I have had a 2002 7.3 auto 4X4 for about 2 months. I recently had it in the shop to replace the flexplate and install a new torque converter seal in the tranny. When I left the shop all seemed well till the weekend came and I took it on a trip. When the truck reached about 75mph a really bad growling sound and vibration started. As long as the truck stayed at 70 or below it went away. I read in my shop manual for the truck about driveshaft alignment. I'm almost certain the garage didnt line it back up properly. I have never heard of aligning a driveshaft, so I can see where it might have been missed. Is there anyway to take the driveshaft back off at the rear axle or the transfer case to align it back up? This is the first time I've sent a vehicle to a shop because of the size the work needed to be done. As always thanks for your help and advice.
They should have marked it before dropping it. If you can prove they didn't, then they should replace both of your u-joints for free. A bent or misaligned driveshaft is VERY common and the cause of most vibrations on the F150 and up. Some will argue that, but whenever I post to tell someone to check their driveshaft for a bend, or u-joint, that's usually the last of that issue. Yours sounds like a bad install, and hopefully it didn't tweak from it. I had an 02 F150 that gave me fits for the longest...It was the driveshaft. Did everything under the sun before putting it up on jackstands and using a dial indicator to find it out of true.
