F4 rear brake drum question

I’m working on a “48” F4 Ford. The rear drums are fairly smooth but I just wanted to even them up. I had them mic’d and one drum is 15.060” and the other is 15.183”. The manual says that the max. boring limit is 15.060”. The manual also talks about installing oversize linings on the shoes if the drums are oversized but doesn’t talk about any dimensions in that discussion. All the other brake parts are useable or I can easily get replacement parts.

Am I out of luck or can I turn them both to 15.183” and get oversized linings on the shoes? I am restoring the truck to stock and will not be working the truck hard.<O

Thanks for any help<O</O

The best thing to do is talk to the people who would reline your shoes. I would think the linings only come in incremental sizes and they would be able to tell you what the next size over standard is.

Personally, if the drums aren't gouged or otherwise damaged, and are smooth, I'd use them the way they are. No need to make them thinner. If you aren't going to work the truck hard it should be alright.

Bob,

Thanks for your help. With .123 difference in the diameter, do you think it will pull to one side?

I doubt it would matter. You'll just have to adjust the brakes to equalize the slight difference.

BTW, welcome to the board. You've found the #1 place for old Ford trucks.

Thanks,

I'm sure I will have many more questions before this project is done.
