I need to change out the coolant in my 2002 PSD. Evidently it is the green coolant and I thought it was the orange coolant. I added the FW-16 to it at about 16,200 miles and now I have 16,800 miles.
I called my dealer and talked to 2 different people and they didn't even know what the FW-16 was!
so here are my questions:
1. Have I ruined my truck by adding the FW-16 to the green coolant? My dealer (who as mentioned doesn't know what the FW-16 is) said not to worry about it, that it won't affect the coolant. Yea right buddy!
2. Should I completely flush out the coolant and re-add the green coolant?
3. Will there be any consequences later down the road for changing the coolant so early in the engine life?
4. Is it 4 quarts of coolant to 4 quarts of water?
5. And finally... how do I change it out? Remember I am not too bright otherwise I wouldn't have added the FW-16 in the first place, so as detailed instructions as possible would be greatly appreciated.
Side note: If you have a 2002 PSD and the 11th letter in the VIN is an E, then apparently you have the orange coolant. My mistake was that there is a green splotch of paint on top of my coolant tank and I assumed that was the way Ford designated the color of coolant you have. As of yet nobody has been able to tell me what that green paint means! Kind of idiotic that the paint color just happens to be the color of the other coolant!

I meant, I have the orange coolant, and I thought I had the green.
so the statement should read...

If your coolant is green then you are okay.
Green gets the additive.( fw-16), coolant change is at 50,000 mi.
orange does not. (coolant change is at 100,000 mi.)
Find another dealer if thay don't know what fw-16 is.

Originally posted by coachhomer my coolant is orange, and I added the FW-16... so now what do I do? I can test it with test strips, but what kind of a reading am I looking for?
thanks

I would flush the coolant system and refill with the orange coolant without the fw-16.

The 2002 Super Duty trucks came with Motorcraft Premium Gold Coolant, that does not need FW-16. The coolant however can turn to a brownish color because of the coolant system sealing tabs they install @ the factory. I have not seen any Super-Duty's with orange coolant. The old green coolant is ethylene glycol, and the gold I think is propylene glycol. You cannot mix the two, but I don't know why you couldn't flush the one coolant completely out and replace it with the other.
