Is the regulator internal or external??
Hey guys the past 3 or 4 days my volt gauges, after market and stock are sitting up around 14 to 15 volts and acting erratic. I am thinking the regulator is going out, I know on my old 75 it's separate from the alternator, just wondering if that's the same in my 92 diesel and if so were the heck is it?

Dave, serpentine belts all got the 3G alternator, which is definitely internally-regulated. V-belts mostly got externally-regulated 1G alternators, but there are some around '86 that got the internally-regulated 2G engineering disaster.

Mines serpentine.. I am going to pull out my old trusty snap on charging system tester and see what it says. After that if still unsure I guess I pull the alternator and head to my local parts store for a load test.
