I'll be converting my truck to 12 volt this weekend. Do I need to bypass my voltage regulator once I switch to an alternator? Pardon my ignorance, but electrical systems are not my strong point. What happens if I leave it connected? As I understand it, the voltage regulator regulates electricity to the generator. Ya'll are always a good resource for helpful info.
what type of alternator are you putting in? If its a GM it most likely has the regulator built in. I just picked up a 63amp GM 3 wire alternator and its has a built in regulator. You also will need a new starter solenoid relay switch and possibly a new key switch and remove the push buttton. At least thats what I am doing. It's a shame you are so far away. Good luck.
