Fuel auto cut-off while towing

Starting to feel jinxed.
Heads just redone (stock gaskets and bolts); turbo rebuilt at same time. Computer flash update also done. Stock oil & EGR cooler checked out fine so they left them in.
65k on 05; quad cab, 4 x 4.
Love the truck put just got back from towing 10k trailer over 1000 'hilly' miles in some heat.
These are MOUNTAINS (4-9% grades; some last up to 1/2 hour @ 40mph avg speed on the steeper ones).
Have posted about tranny puking and getting some good ideas but here is another issue:
Never pushed this truck hard and long so thought I push it a bit harder; it was cool at the time (65 degress) and was about 10 minutes into a major climb (6-9% grades; pulling 10k 5th wheel)- sustained boost of about 13-15lbs and I took it up to 22lbs for about 2-3 minutes and the engine started to 'cut out'. I think it was the computer 'protecting the engine'.
Freaked out not knowing if anything was blown-all looked good & it never did it again over 800 harder & hotter miles- I just never boosted it at a sustained level over 15lbs.
Anyone run into this?

Did boost pressure drop to zero for 20-40 seconds?

The computer doesn't "cut out" the engine to protect it. It will defuel in some cases, usually very high oil or water temps. But defueling would appear to you as a loss of power.

There is no defueling strategy for high boost, that I am aware of, and if there was, it would certainly be higher than 22 PSI.

I've pulled grades at boost levels of 25 PSI or higher for extended periods, pulling in the Wasatch, San Juan and Sierra Nevada mountains.

I'm not sure what you experienced, but one possibility might be a potentially failing Fuel Injector Control Module.

I've read on this site that the computer will defuel to protect if oil and coolant temps are more than 15 degrees different for more than x number of minutes. I believe it's a feature of the latest 'flash' form the fall of 2009.
Might be way out to lunch.....
I suspect that if what something else it would have repeated when under full load again under tougher conditions.
I will ask my Ford dealer and see what they have to say.
Would such an incident produce a 'code' that they can see with their diagnostic tools???

Thanks for the feed back!

More than a 15 degree difference on '05 or newer trucks with the new flash will set a code and light the "wrench" light. I don't think it will cause a defuel but I could be wrong.

If there was a problem with the FICM, I suspect it would have set a code.

Didn't notice the boost gauge as I went into panic mode!
Took foot off gas and pulled over to the side of the road.
No wrenches.
Would a wrench come on if a code is then set???
Or can a code be tripped (& hopefully saved) without the wrench?

Yes. Codes can be set without either the wrench or check engine light. It depends on the code.

Whatever it is it must be minor as I just drove the ***** out if it and it pulled hard.
26 lbs and not a burp. Pulled hard over and over again...but unloaded.
I'll get it scanned as i will probably be cheaper to look at it now than break something more expensive later.
