Highest recorded eot ?

I recently started having coolant loss while towing 5th wheel camper, got an eye opener when I saw ECT of 197F and EOT of 278F within 10 miles of non towing while monitoring with a Mac scan tool. Has anyone else seen temps with this much differential ?

If that oil temp is correct, you are doing damage by driving it.

I just repaired an early-build '04 truck yesterday, that I saw ECT between 185 to 205, while EOT was up between 240 to 260 on the post-repair road test.

"Post repair"? Surly you mean "Pre" before repair.

Nope. I meant POST (as in AFTER) repair road test. The vehicle came in because it wouldn't stay running. After replacing the engine harness and repairing THAT issue, was when I observed those temperature readings. The customer has already been forewarned about those temperatures. Whether or not he chooses to address it, is entirely up to him.

I'm hoping that the oil temp sensor is not reporting correctly. Tomorrow morning I'm going to check when the engine is cold, I would think that both temps should be real close to each other before starting?

If you have doubts, try swapping the sensors to see what readings you get. They are both literally identical.

How are you guys checking these temps ?,,I have an 06' F-350, 6.0, with 52 k on it,,no issues at all so far,,,,But,,,by reading all these EOT and ECT threads,,I think I should look into it soon !,,Maybe some Info Help ??,,,Thanks,,,Mark

PS,, I have seen the collant filter mods,,,and where they mount,,,I happen to have a Snow Plow power solenoid in that same location,,A filter may still be able to be mounted there!

You're going to want to get that fixed ASAP. I had replaced my oil cooler, and my second failed within a VERY short time. The most probable cause was that I didn't flush the coolant properly. I went down the route of sensors, thermostats, water pumps etc, but it was a bad oil cooler again. When you replace your oil cooler flush, flush and flush again BEFORE replacing the cooler, but you're going to want to address this sooner rather than later as you do risk additional damage and cost.

Have to get gauges. A lot use gauges that plug into the OBDII port. These, such as the Insight, monitor a broad range of functions and is well worth the investment. The water filter doesn't solve the oil cooler problem, but there's nothing bad about removing particles in your coolant that can only help extend the oil cooler life. The water filters can be mounted anywhere, just use more / less tubing.

I know what you mean. I have a siren speaker mounted there. I took an air powered cut off tool and trimmed my radiator shroud a little right in front of the alternator. I then made a plate that bolts where the two alt bolts are inline. Coolant filter hangs from that plate right in front of alt.

I have heard that the Mac scan tool's EOT reading can be off by a lot. Is there any truth to this?

Installed new oil temp sensor yesterday for funzies, same results on the EOT (275 degrees). Looks like I will be tearing it down and doing the oil cooler/egr cooler replacement ASAP. While I was at the dealership the parts guy said that the service department may be able to help out some since the truck is only 8 months out of warranty with 57K miles. They were shutting down at noon so I will check back on Monday.
