I have a 2010 Superduty and some time ago I had a gooseneck hitch installed and had a plug/socket installed in bed. The truck has an integrated brake controller, which I like. I have had no problems with it for first couple of months, but in last month, I started getting a message on my information center: "Trailer Brake Module Fault". This comes on several times a day, and doesn't seem to matter whether I'm hooked up to a trailer or not. When the message comes on, I lose the electric brakes to my trailer, but the trailer lights keep working.
I took it to the dealer and they told me that if the aftermarket installer didn't use solder and heatwraped connectors, it would give the message. I took it to the installer (very good business, used it for years, never a problem). The rewired it to get the connections soldered and heatwrapped. So now it still is doing it.
Anyone had this kind of problem? I'm ready to take it back to the dealer to have them re-check the integrated brake module, but would be curious of any other's ideas or suggestions.
If it does it without a trailer plugged in, then I can't see how it could have anything to do with the plug in the bed. The dealer needs to diagnose the problem.
That was my thought too. Dealer may not have even checked it out,but just provided me with a Service Bulletin that generally put the blame for that error message on after Market installations that they say creates the problem. Normally this dealer has been pretty straight up with me, but I may have to push them to replace the brake module. It seems odd that they have a Service Bulletin on this, when it may be that the type of module they use is problematic...
how did they add the connection in the bed? Is it the type of connection that plugs in between the harness and the factory 7/4 connection? ...or did they splice it?
