make sure that both levers on the case are moved ,just moving the top one with the lower lever in the forward position creats the situation you described ,but you must also move the bottom one towards the back of the case to lock in the front driveshaft

yes not trying to be a smartazz but did you verify that the lower or inside lever actually moves forward and backwards and not just the outside one? or did you just move the shift lever in the cab,just trying to help. i have my old 203 i just went and looked at
I took the lever mechanism off, that way I have to do it by hand. And I have been doing it by hand, cause I am going to make it a twin stick (One will select 2WD or 4WD other will select Low or High) So yes I made sure it was going all the way back.
idk where in oh you are but I have a 203 here at the house and all I need is the range box off it, so once I get it split and get the parts I need for the doubler, you could have the rest if it would do you any good.
