It looks good, Ilya. Really good. I was reading back through the thread a bit and just now caught the post about your exhaust manifold cracking on you. I know you've got it fixed, but I'll mention this for future reference. Whenever you are dealing with a 6 like yours with the separate intake and exhaust bolted together like that, it's a good idea to bolt them together permanently and then drop them by a machine shop to have then mill the mounting flanges a bit as an assembly to true them up. I don't know if this would have eliminated your crack or not, but given the location of the crack, I suspect it might have.
If there was a finned oil pan cover for this engine, I'd buy it too.
You could probably make your own by welding 1/8" x 1/4'' flat bar evenly spaced to the oil pan. Might be time consuming but you'd end up with a finned pan. That straight 6 looks real good all dressed up I must say.
IT WOULD LOOK A WHOLE LOT BETTER DRIVING DOWN THE STREET! When are you gonna take that big step!!!!!!
Just do it!!!!!!

P.S. - Go drive that thing!
Thanks for the tip!
I failed to mention that I've been driving the truck for the past month or two. I've only driven it a handful of times. All of the drives were local, less than 10 miles. I haven't taken it for a longer trip yet. I'm just driving it short distances to work out most of the bugs.
While driving yesterday, the speedo stopped working. Turns out the cable broke at the trans mounting. While was was under the truck, I noticed more oil leaking from the oil pan even though I replaced the oil pan gasket. I re-tightened the oil pan bolts to, hopefully, fixed the issue.
Next are the dual trumpet horns and then soundproofing the interior.
Hello Ilya,
If you want to double up the cranking power wouldn't you want to get two of the Optima 6v batteries & put them in series? You could then grab a 6v line from the middle of the batteries for all of the 6v electrical items & use the 12v only for cranking. It'd crank at twice the normal cranking rpm!
Dan
The oil pressure thing sounds relatively normal. Oil pressure is usually higher when the oil is cold and thick. As the engine warms up, the pressure will drop off a little. It will definitely drop off when you're idling and should go back up when you rev up the engine. Keep in mind that the original gage might not be exactly calibrated.

Thanks for the tip, Dan. I've seen this done before a few years ago. The guy that works on my Airflow has the same set up in his Airflow. He ran the two Optimas in a series. He doubled up his cranking without hurting any 6v components.
BTW, I figured out that the battery wasn't being charged/maintained by the generator. The generator was worn out and all of the cranking and driving, drained the battery. I had the battery recharged and had the generator rebuilt. Now there aren't any cranking issues (so far).

Actually, forgot to mention that I also fixed the oil pressure and temp issues. After a few minutes of looking at the wiring, I realized that I criss-crossed the wires in the engine bay going to the gauges. So, I had the wire from the oil gauge connected to the temp sender and the wire from the temp gauge connected to the oil sender. Rookie mistake. I've reconnected the wires properly and the gauges work properly now.
I wanted to mention that you lit a fire under me to get my F2....soon to be F1 project under way!!
I have your chassis on it's feet now with a rebuilt 9" rear end. I also went through the IFS front end and installed new hubs with a 5x5.5 lug pattern and new disk brakes. I'm going to try to set the cab on it over Thanksgiving when two of my sons are home from school. I'll start a build log. I didn't want to derail your thread, but I did want to thank you for the motivation!

Dan,
That's great news! I'm glad that the frame went to a good home. Please be sure to take a lot of photos and start your own build thread. There's nothing more that we like than to look at photos and learn from others. Plus, if you don't take lots of photos, you'll regret it when you're done building your truck.
I'd love to see what you've done so far to the frame that I could have done had I kept it.
Just like you, I was inspired by mostly everyone here to get my 52 back on the road. As soon as my trailer is empty, I'll be bringing the 51 home for a second resurrection titled, "Resurrection - The Sequel".
