My starter was dragging like i had low batteries (batteries 1 yr old) i checked them the have 12.7 volts so went to auto zone and bought a reman starter installed it the starter will run but not turn the engine so i took it back and bought the NEW one having same prob the bendex is not reaching the flywheel is there something else going on or should i go somewhere else also the starters from no longer have the horn on the end instead the gear slides in starter
First important question is what do the battery cables look like? If you have a bad cable or connection it can cause this issue.
The starters have changed over the years. Sounds like you have a new style which should work better than the old ones.
The cables are about 1 yr old i replaced all them when i put new batteries in and they are a size larger than was originally on her............. not sure what you mean by new style starter the one on her is slightly offset. The new ones from autozone will not work the bendex will not reach the fly wheel for some reason
What year is your truck? If it's a '94 they are probably giving you a power joke starter. Tell them you have a '93.
Truck is a 94 and thanks for your help i just looked up the 93 starter and it is the one i have so you must be right they were giving me a powerstroke starter
Not uncommon, 94 was a split year, IDI 7.3 for the first part, PS 7.3 for the latter. Those that have the '94s are just best off ordering stuff for a '93 to avoid the confusion.
