Engine Plug Leaking Water

If I don’t have enough problems with this F-100 I just bought. I saw water coming out of the bottom of the truck today. I found it leaking from on of the engine plugs (I know there is a name for these). Does anyone know if I can replace them and if so how?<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
<o></o>
Do I have to buy all the plugs for the entire engine or can I buy one? Is there a way to stop it from leaking. It appears it may have overheated because the water pump looks like it was just replaced. <o></o>
<o></o>
Also the Engine temperature gage is not working so I don’t; want to drive it until I fix it. Is there a way of knowing of it is the gage or the thermostat?<o></o>

Where is the best engine book for a 77 engine and diagram book for the entire truck. I am not to mechanical and I want to give this a go, restoring the entire truck. Although I have replaced thermostats before I forget where it is. Is it under the hose from the radiator that goes into the block?<o></o>

I need a book that shows me how to pull the truck apart and put it back together or I need a Ford expert renter to move in for a year. LOL

that critter there is an expansion plug, or freeze plug. you will most likely have to buy a block kit, but theyre only about 10 bucks. the way ive got them out is take a 3/8" 3" extension on the bottom and hit it with a hammer so the top pivots outward and yank it out with pliars. putting them in i used a short piece of old wooden broom handle, (or anything that will fit in the "hole" to drive it in place) and a hammer and give a few good taps. be sure to seal it with some high-temp permatex (red).

as far as your guage not working, replace the temp sensor in the intake and/or check the wiring. if the wiring is in good shape and the new sensor doesnt fix it, try replacing your guage. also, your right, the thermostat is located inside the upper radiator hose where it meets the intake.

If you are going to remove the engine or can get to them like it is now , then replace them with brass ones. Clean out all of the rust and crudd you can get to. There is a rubber plug one you can get for most engines that might hold you until you can get to all of them. I has a bolt you tighten and expands the plug like a cork, it's okay to get by on for awhile. Wellcome to F.T.E.

I am in the same situation, to remove mine I will have to move the tranny cooler lines, starter & header on the passengers side,
A buddy suggested to me to try Chevy's stop leak, he has had real good luck with it, I know I am going to catch crap for saying that word (chevy)

I think I am going to try it.

A friend of mine said JB weld will work however the one on mine that is leaking is accesable from below. If it was any other one I would be screwed. I am going to try taking it out then putting a new one as Collins said. I just need a 1 year or less fix as I am going to rebuild a new engine to put in.

I am going to work on the body for now then drop the engine in later. Hopfully it holds untill I can get a new engine done. I still have a leaky carb, no brakes, power steering leak to deal with. I just need it reliable as I work on it over time. I am hoping to restre it over the next 24 months.

I will need a lot of help from this form.

Thanks for all the help guys.

Bill
