Are you having any problem that you know of that might call for for more spring? If not
I wouldn't worry about it. My 1981 has about the same throttle cable as your 1985 and
with a 4180 Holley on it I did add a light spring to make sure it would always return to
idle when I let off the throttle.
I just noticed almost all the older carbureted vehicles in the junkyards use a smaller return spring, and was wondering if this is something I should have or need to put on. There was a lot of missing components taken off my truck before I took ownership, and I would like to get it correct. I currently don't drive my truck all that much, but I am getting it more and more ready for daily use, and I want to be sure I am not leaving off something important!
If I remember correctly, my truck was completely stock when I got it as it had been
purchased new by my Dad. It had a stock 302 with AOD and I don't think it had a
separate throttle return spring but relied on the cable spring to control the throttle
return. I'm not sure that that would be exactly like your 85 but should be similar.
