bouncing temp gauge

My temp gauge started bouncing today, it is moving way to fast for it to be the actual temperature changing. it never bounced any higher than the truck usually runs at, right at the n or o. it just drops down to almost the C and then shoots back up, i could not find any pattern to it and it was very speratic. has anyone else ever scene this?

Sounds like a faulty connection or broken wire somewhere.

Check the sender end, the instrument panel isn't likely to come loose without it affecting other things, as it is a big gang plug with several connections in one. Work back from the sender a distance, as there could be an issue along that wire. I would also check the engine harness connector at the passenger fender, there are other common issues with it, there could be an issue there for the temp problem for you too.
