I was wondering how often you guys have to change air filters. Mine is at 30,000, and the restriction meter looks like it has not moved at all from day 1. I find this a little odd.
Change the air filter based on the restriction gauge, not miles driven. These air filters are huge and are designed to last very long periods of time unless you live in a dusty area. That is why the restriction gauge is there. Im at 50,000 and mine is still fine. As long as you make sure your restriction gauge is good, i.e. it does not lose vacuum after sitting overnight, it will serve you well.

Is there any way to do a simple test on the vacuum gauge to make sure it is OK? I'm trying to figure out why my truck has started going into regen more, and was wondering if perhaps a clogged air filter would contribute to that.
I changed mine at 30,000. When I did I found a plastic part under the filter that my Ford dealer can't tell where it came from. Holding it up to a light and not being able to see through was enough for me.
If you look at your restriction gauge at night after shutting off the truck, then checking it again the next morning before starting the truck, and the gauge has not moved, it's safe to say your gauge is fine. It would lose pressure overnight.
I changed mine at 55,000 just because. It could have gone on longer, but the filter was pretty dirty. I bought the truck used, so I am not sure if it has been replaced or not, I was guessing not.
I believe it has little teeth in it that hold it in place as it notches up. I pushed mine to reset it and it definitely clicks. I don't see how it would maintain a vacuum when the engine is off.
If you reset it and you have a clogged filter, a good full load WOT drive hot will certainly pull enough air through there to trip the gauge if the filter has any restrictions.
IMOP I wouldn't wait too long. This truck sucks snow and water into the filter and clog's it so if you push the limit on normal dirt, etc. your going to clogg much faster when driving in the rain or snow..That's if you live in that kind of place..Ha. I do..
