I am in the process of ordering a 2003 F250 XLT 4 x 4 Crewcab. V-10/3.73LS. My wife gave me the go ahead to trade in the EB Expedition so I want to go for the gusto. Moonroof, heated signal mirrors, sport package with black leather, etc. I can't wait. BUT...Here is my problem. I have been told not to bring the truck home without heated seats. Heated seats are an option on the Lariat trim package, but not on the XLT. I have seen XLTs with heated seats, but no one knows how they got there. My dealer says that they can NOT order them. Does anyone know if there is a backdoor into ordering these? Just ordering the Lariat version is not an option, my wife hates the "wood" interior and she also loves the fact that on the sport package, the front and rear bumpers match the rest of the truck. Call me a whipped, but when the wife encourages this type of purchase, I want to do everything in my power to get her the heated seats (no, she won't be driving it, but she will be riding in it). I can just feel all that V-10 power at my feet and the heat on my ***
Ask FORD to go ahead and put it in the XLT model. We are entitled to put whatever we want, and while your at it, make it a SUPERDUYT LIGHTNING!!!! j/k brother I dream of that. Hope I was a help
I already had "that" dream. A supercharged V-10 with a 5 speed automatic making something like 500hp and getting 20 mpg at 80! But, right now I'll just settle for heated seats. It is a good dream though.
If you ever think you might lift it and go taller on the tires then get the 4:10 or 4:30 (don't remember what is offered now)
I like my 3:73s but if I go taller on the tires then the effective final ratio will push my cruise rpm below the power band of this motor, and I like cruising at 74MPH @2050RPM !
There are folks here, and on the diesel web site that have taken the Ford seats apart and added lumbar supports... with their instruction of HOW TO, I would imagine that it is not too big a task to retro fit a heater in the seat...
you could also have all the local crash repair folks keep an eye for a totaled XLT with your interior color seats and get them on salvage, bolt up plug n play deal,
You could also con your dealer to just order the XLT seats and install them for you at delivery... where there is a will there is a way .... and sometimes it cost some dollars to keep the lady happy....
I had not though about some of you solutions, thanks. I will check out the SD forum and see if anyone has done that. I probably should have posted my original message there anyway, but I read the "grim" topic about nobody posting on the V-10 section. I figured since I am getting a V-10, might as well start here. As far as a 3:73 vs a 4:30 rear end, any guess on what that will do to gas mileage? I would imagine that the bigger rear end would significanty reduce mileage, but maybe I am wrong?
Thanks. The more I use this site for info, the more excited I get about the new truck.
Most of the last two years that I have been treading these boards the difference in the 3:73s vs the 4 series is really insignificant until you get areound 4:88 or into the 5s
These trucks really look good, and like modest lifts of 4" or 5.5" and will turn 33 to 35s with no real adverse effects on the drive train.
The guys with the 6" and up lifts, and MUCH larger tires won't admit it, but there are drivability and wear problems, not to discount the voided warrenty.
Any way if you are the tinkering/modifing kina owner, than a modest lift and or just larger tires actually seems to improve the handling and looks...
caution though, lots of big tires do NOT carry the load rating needed for max weight tow/haul.. a lot of things to think about
Any way the 4:10s 11.7mpg vs 3:73s 12.5mpg reported averages difference are not great enough to suggest that you need 3:73s for much better fuel milage....
Thanks for the thread. I got some good info. If Ford doesn't want my money for the "un-available" option, I will give it to this company (Rostra Precision Controls).
