I have a question about a the 87-91 instrument cluster with tach. Looking at the back of the cluster there is a small printed circut board on the right hand side that is held on by two torx screws. What does this board do?? Because one of the intrument clusters in my truck doesn't have it while another I bought for parts does.
Check here - I think it's an emissions/gas mileage/service interval warning lamp circuit. There should be some text etched into the board, or on the film circuit, like each of the gauges has.
Steve83: Are you still on this site? This was posted many years ago but I found d the same thing on the back of my cluster. I located a replacement but it does not have this attached. I hope this image helps.
That is to turn on the "Engine" light if oil pressure drops below a certain point on the gauge, or if water temp goes above a certain point. It was an extra warning if you did not happen to be looking at the gauge at the time. It was deleted on the 1991 clusters, but you can add it and it works. I put one on mine just in case.
