Having never driven any truck but a stock one, I can only imagine the descriptions I read about here of different sounds from the engine. Since my S&B install, there are lots of them. When I get on it and it starts to go it does a wwwsssshhhhhrrrrr and tapers off. Can anyone tell me what that is? Is that normal and working right?
Spooling is just the turbo winding up and is fine. Surge is the compressor wheel stalling and has a distinctive sound to it, which is bad for your turbo. If you search here, you can find a video that includes an audio clip of surge. Only adding your S&B intake should not cause surge.
