I just killed the rear in my 88 Bronco haven't pulled the cover yet but it sounds like a couple missing teeth. Anyhow I have never replaced a ring and pinion. I know the basics but I was hoping anyone knew of a good link of a step by step rebuild clearances, torque specs, preload etc.I like to learn because it seems to be a dying trade and I know I'll cook another rear in the future. Thank in advance for any links or help
Check out some of the mustang forums. It's not as hard as it seems. If you reuse your original shims for the carrier and pinion ALONG WITH FORD MOTORSPORT RING GEAR AND PINION SET, you will not have to buy the tools needed to measure pinnion depth. Get a new crush collar and pinnion nut. And an inch-pound torque wrench. can't remember what the torque amount is, but the mustang guys will know.
Then again, you might be better off going to the junk yard for the whole rear end, might be cheaper and easier.
8.8's are a dime a dozen in wrecking yards, so it wouldn't be worth the time, money, effort, or the money for the special tools + you would get a little bit of a warranty.

Well although that is true the broncos only came with 3.08 or 3.55 gears I'm sitting on 33"s now and plan on putting 4-6" more lift on the truck (its just a toy not a daily driver) so I'd like to go 4.11 or better W/ more tire more gear so if I learn now on the 8.8 I feel it will be easier when I do the 44 which is more difficult and again later if and when I lift my excursion
