6litrefan, only you can make the judgement call on whether you are happy with the concentration.

But let's assume for a moment that you are not sure and it bothers you. There is an easy and inexpensive way to correct it, and it doesn't require taking anything apart. Just get 3 gallons of 50% Pre-Mixed coolant, or 2 gallons of concentrate and mix it yourself. Simply drain from the radiator ****, and refill with the fresh 50% mix. The more 50% mix you add the closer to 50% overall you will be. This shouldn't cost you more than about $30-$40. You could even do it one gallon at a time over a few weeks, and the nice thing about that is you would be getting a good mixing in the system each week.

In the Coolant 101 forum instructions state that at the final fill you add 3 1/2 gallons of pure premium gold coolant then top off with water....well I dont know bout you guys but when i went to do my final fill, i could only get a small amount of water in... it was nearly full with just the premium gold coolant in it (and I fudged up and only put in 2.5 gallons! i would hate to see if i had used the required 3.5 gallons!).....this math doesnt add up. The system holds 27.5 qts. which translates to 6.8 gallons....there would of had to be water still left in my system that didnt drain out when i took the bottom hose off....right???? Is this typically the case, that when draining a coolant system you dont get all fluid out when draining? I put in a max of 3.5 gallons so that means there was another 3 or more gallons still in my system after dropping lower rad hose????? Does that sound right?

I dunno what i could be doing wrong i mean the only thing i didnt do is remove the block plugs. So your telling me when draining a coolant system by pulling the lower rad. hose that you should get most of the fluid out and nothing would be still trapped in the block or heater core etc.?

Every time you drop the lower radiator hose, about 3.5 - 4 gallons (14 - 16 quarts) comes out.

Is the truck on a level surface when you're loosening the lower radiator hose?

Be sure you have the degas cap removed.

I don't know any other reason why it wouldn't drain properly for you. You could use a little compressed air in the block plug port to push more out. I've done that on other engines.

Lets say the truck is on a level surface and that the degas bottle cap is removed, then by draining from lower rad hose, on refill if I put in 3.5 of the premium gold jugs, and then top off with water then i should have a perfect 50/50 mix in system?

So if I drain all that I have in truck now and refill using this method I should be good to go right? It will cost me another 90 bucks buttt.....

It's a 27.5 quart coolant system, total.

3.5 gallons = 14 quarts

So you'll end up with a half a quart more coolant than water in the system.

That assumes that you have 100% water in the system before dropping the lower hose to make room for the 3.5 gallons of coolant.

You could do that, but I would suggest you read post #62.

That's what I would do. 2 or 3 weeks and sleep well.
