Ok as I told you guys in recent posts, after finally getting the injectors firing again, I have got so much smoke coming off the stacks that I can, and have quite literally smoked out a 4 lane highway. Now granted that was on the 140HP setting which is also what Jody uses as his smoke tune. However even in 60 and 80 HP econo, I lay down some massive clouds with very little effort. If I barely push on the throttle enough for a slow takeoff (slower than stock) I can keep it from pouring it off, but general basic driving even during rush hour bumper to bumper driving like I go to work in everytime you moved forward some Id make the guy in the convertible behind me suffer. When I do get moving I noticed that it seems like the turbo doesent start to spool up any faster then it did with the stock sticks. Once its starts its off to the races but still seems to have as much lag or more than it did when stock. Im gonna disconnect the MAP again later as I have had problems with it before, and the one thats on there now came out of a scrap yard. Seems to me that a large part of the smoke is the turbo is still lagging and takes too long to start spooling to control the smoke. Now I am aware that at the high altitude here the thin air makes it slower, but shouldnt the bigger injectors have offset some of the lag time? Thoughts, opinions, ideas? Does anybody elses do this?
Check your up pipes for leaks and if you have a IC (I didn't see it in your signature) check it for leaks. Mine is doing the same and I have up pipe leaks. With my baby beans I can also smoke out the highway really bad. I don't know anything about the map sensor, let us know what you find there. What was the problem with the map last time?
About 3 or 4 moths ago it was acting like the turbo wasnt spooling, I was about to tear the turbo apart, (had the parts in hand) and in the course of checking it couldnt find anything wrong with the wheels or bearing, etc. so I decided to diconnect the MAP and try it first, and sure as hell the turbo came to life. So I left it disconnected a day or so, and got another one from a friend at a scrap yard for $10 rather than the 100 or so they want for a new one. So it is possible that this used one is working so good, or doesent like the pressures from the new injectors, Ill find out later.
Earl, when i had stage 1's i could also smoke out a highway if i wanted to. I have a few videos on youtube of my truck with the stage 1's(search tatsch95psd). check them out and compare what you have to what i had.
I have noticed that my truck is taking longer and longer to spool. Take a look at your intake plenums and build a boost leak detector to see if you got any boost leaks. Maybe your map line is plugged??? lots of things it could be. heck it could also be the tuning. Jody has some pretty smokey tunes from what I've seen. How much boost are you getting and what RPM is the turbo lighting?
I think Glenn hit the nail on the head. Of course as Mike stated intake, plenum and plenum boots leaking could contribute to the turbo issue too. As far as the map sensor you may have to bite the bullet and get a new one if a cracked, collapsing or plugged hose isn't the culprit. As far as the smoke I'd call Jody. Or remove the chip and run it for a while as a test.
